World Press Photo 19

The annual World Press Photo Award is the world’s largest and internationally recognized competition for press photography. The jury selected around 78,000 photos from 4,700 photographers from 129 countries and the winning photos will be shown in an exhibition in over 45 countries.

Since 1955, the mission of the World Press Photo Foundation has been to “maintain high professional standards in photojournalism and advocate a free and unrestricted exchange of information”.

This year’s winner of World Press Photo of the Year is US photographer John Moore with his photo “Crying Girl on the Border”. Yanela from Honduras cries when her mother Sandra Sanchez in Texas, USA, is searched by a US official. John Moore says: “I think this picture has touched the hearts of many people just like mine, because it humanizes a great story.” This is just one of the examples of breathtaking photos that we will be able to see at this exhibition, so join us next week and discover the importance of photojournalism in today’s world!
