Culture Wednesday - Everyday Life in the GDR Exhibition

The permanent exhibition "Everyday life in the GDR" provides an insight into the daily lives of people under the leadership of the SED regime. It shows how the regime characterised everyday life, how people dealt with lack and boundaries and where they found freedom. Instead of having to read through endless texts on information boards, you can look at old East German adverts, everyday objects and a reconstructed department store with original East German products. The exhibition is surprisingly colourful, but does not spread any naive East German nostalgia, because in addition to amazing GDR souvenirs, it also shows how the system interfered in the everyday lives of all citizens.
