Kulturmittwoch // David Hasselhoff Museum
Learn German and experience Berlin!
This week will be a fun and light-hearted cultural Wednesday where we want to introduce you to an unlikely icon of German culture: David Hasselhoff! You’ve probably heard of this actor if you know of films such as Knight Rider, Baywatch and Guardians of the Galaxy. Because to these films, he became a cultural icon all over the world, often simply known as “The Hoff”. He also began a music career and published an autobiography, ironically titled “Don’t Hassel The Hoff”. In the midst of Berlin, at Rosenthaler Platz, there is a David Hasselhoff Museum in the basement of the Circus Hotel. But why? The Hoff became an icon of Berlin when he performed “Looking for Freedom” on New Years Eve in 1989 before German reunification. This song and David Hasselhoff have since been jokingly credited for the reunification. If nothing else, it gave East Germans hope. Now we can go to a museum about him. Come along if you want to join in the fun!
