Kulturmittwoch // Tränenpalast
Learn German and experience Berlin!
A particularly important part of German history is the post-war period and the time of Germany’s literal division. This cultural Wednesday we would like to have a closer look at this time. Most of you have probably passed through the Friedrichstraße train station at some point during your stay in Berlin. To this day, the train station is an important part of Berlin’s public transport system, where many trains, trams and buses arrive every day to bring Berliners from A to B. However, in the past this place was one of great sadness, as it was a border crossing where countless people had to say goodbye to their loved ones who were leaving the GDR to go to the west. The Tränenpalast (“palace of tears”) is an exhibition that helps visitors to understand the process of crossing the border and the stories of those who had to experience this time. You are all welcome to come to the Tränenpalast on Wednesday with us and learn more about this part of Berlin’s history.
